Visy Australia has awarded Aquatec Maxcon the contract to design and construct a high strength waste treatment plant at its Smithfield facility in NSW. The treatment facility will dramatically improve the quality of water streams from the plant and dramatically reduce the brewery's requirements for potable water taking it to world leading performance.
The treatment plant will utilise world leading Paques Internal Circulation UASB technology to treat the high strength waste anaerobically resulting in the use of little energy while producing valuable of biogas. The water will then be treated aerobically in a Paques Circox granular biomass reactor before flotation and filtration to
remove solids and deliver high quality water. This product will then be further enhanced by microfiltration and reverse osmosis to deliver product water suitable for use in the brewery's boilers and wash down facilities.
